Many freshmen will spend their early weeks at RIT cooped up in their dorms, utilizing just the space immediate to their room to study, nap, eat, etc. They get in a rut, and as a result, possibly minimize their social interactions. I’m here to tell you the best places to study, use the bathroom and hang out on campus. Study Places on Campus Reading Room
“Imagine if you just flew to South America. You have 500 minutes in South America to get a general idea about what the entirety of Earth is like. Do you think it would be sufficient?” asked Anthony Hennig, a fourth year Mechanical Engineering major and graduate student in Science, Technology and Public Policy.
You walk into an apartment where music is playing, drinks are flowing and people are laughing. This is the night, the one your mother told you to avoid and your best friend told you to go all-out on. You feel stressed from the week before but now it’s time to let it all go.
RIT Counseling Center sits on the second floor of the August Center. A small but dedicated staff prides itself in providing the highest quality care possible for our diverse campus. For years now, the numbers of appointments have continued to grow and have put strain on the center’s programming and the centers’ staff. At one point in February, it was rumored that they had done away with one on one sessions in favor of group sessions.
In almost every movie, from action adventures to romantic comedies, we have seen the protagonist finally find and fall in love with the perfect person: their love; their soul mate; “The One.” Although some movies have started to include relationships between a variety of people of different genders and sexual orientations, the relationship style is still the same: one person madly in love with one other person.
Bisexual individuals constitute a growing and often misunderstood group in the LGBTQQIA community. Simply put, bisexual people are sexually attracted to both men and women. This should not be confused with pansexual, or people who are sexually attracted to all genders. People involved in this community are frequently stigmatized and incorrectly labeled due to a lack of understanding.
“I [...] may say that if homosexuals in Berlin are now granted such a unique restoration of life, it is mainly due to our enlightening movement, without wanting to be blamed for some of the excesses which have emerged over time,” said Magnus Hirschfield, the founder of the first world gay rights movement, the Scientific Humanitarian Committee (SHC) in 1897.

Sex is a fantastic activity, and like any other fantastic activity, sex comes with risks. However, unlike fantastic activities like sky diving, consuming alcoholic beverages and eating more than your recommended serving size of cake, sex has risks and safety measures that often go unstated or unexplained.
The History of Trans* In 2011, Eliza Gray, staff writer at Time Magazine, boldly labeled the Transgender Rights movement as America’s next civil rights struggle.
When talking about smoking on campus, many students refer to the cloud of smoke outside the library as the area where students, staff and faculty who smoke tend to congregate. With the proposed campus-wide smoking ban still on the table, the discussion should not just include the library’s cloud of smoke but the people within it, too.
Alcohol is woven tightly into the tapestry of virtually every culture on Earth. Deep red wines on the dinner table have become synonymous with France and Italy, while great steins of handcrafted ales bring to mind Germany and Belgium. In the United States, we've established our own place in the world of booze, with wacky, experimental craft beers and bold wines.
Chicken covered in red barbeque sauce, crock pots full of pasta and meatballs, a huge lasagna, roasted nuts, hard-boiled eggs and — of course — cupcakes and chocolate. Platters full of food covered every countertop and table. My aunts were offering me dish after dish, but I couldn't eat anything they had lovingly prepared. My temporary dietary restrictions didn’t allow for any of this food. Or soda. Or milk. I had gone raw.
“Our teacher was scared of the word ‘penis,’” said second year Psychology major Lauren Harradine. Well, not necessarily scared, she clarified. “But she couldn’t say it without laughing really hard.”
Nestled away on a 21 acre parcel of land on an unassuming street in Pittsford, N.Y. sits a beautiful cobblestone house. To the average passerby, this is just another beautiful old farm house, but to the RIT community this residence, known as Liberty Hill, is home to a couple we are all familiar with: RIT President Dr. Bill Destler and his wife Dr. Rebecca Johnson.
The longer people spend on Facebook, the greater the decline in “how people feel moment–to –moment and how satisfied they are with their lives,” according to a recent study conducted by the psychology department at University of Michigan. This finding was independent of factors such as the “size of people's Facebook networks, their perceived supportiveness, and motivation for using Facebook, gender, loneliness, self-esteem or depression.”
We’ve all thought about it. But Pew Research reports that only one in ten people have actually signed up for an online dating site or app. Part of this is due to a long standing social stigma but slowly, as the technology improves, the options expand and society evolves, it is beginning to lift.

This day is for the trans* community and their allies to remember and mourn the lives of trans* individuals whose lives were taken through hate crime. In years past, November 20 fell during RIT’s November break due to the quarter system. For this reason, this year marks the first celebration of the Transgender Day of Remembrance on RIT’s campus.
Four years ago, the RIT Leadership Institute and Community Service Center created the Women’s Leadership Certificate. Recently, the Center has expanded upon this to create an overarching Emerging Professionals Leadership Certificate that has tracks for both men and women in the workplace.
