Student Government (SG) gathered on Aug. 28 for their first meeting of the fall 2026 semester, during which they outlined expectations for SG members and the SG budget.
SG Overview
SG President Yasmine Ibrahim presented a general overview of SG. Members of SG will be expected to hold office hours and sit on external committees.
Nkodia Ndongala, SG Vice President, presented a refresher on Robert’s Rules, which outlines the rules for parliamentary procedure.
SG Finance Review
Sebastian Canakis Diaz, SG’s Director of Finance outlined SG finances for the year. The total SG budget for the 2026-2027 academic year is $115,000. $18,000 will be allocated to promotional materials, $75,000 will be allocated to “SG operations,” and $6,000 will go towards a staff retreat. Each senator will have access to $750 for SG use. Canakis Diaz explained that the “numbers are somewhat flexible,” although he would prefer to stick to them if possible. SG will aim to spend $3,800 per week.
Canakis Diaz encouraged members of SG to use their budgets and said that he would like to utilize most of the money if possible.
Appointments
SG’s Director of Elections, Joshua Anderson, was appointed Parliamentarian. He will be responsible for ensuring that SG follows parliamentary procedures during their meetings.
Accessibility Senator Suprina Kabadkar was appointed President Pro Tempore. The President Pro Tempore is to take over for the Vice President in their absence.
