Happy September, class is in full swing, which is great, but can be intense. So many things are going on, always. It’s normal to feel overwhelmed; we’ve all had moments where it feels easier to tune everything out, to turn a blind eye to the things happening around you — after all, life moves really fast! There’s always something new to worry about, something new to pay attention to. It can get dark and gloomy, especially at RIT.
But don’t let life happen to you. Take it by the reins. You, as a student, have a voice — a really loud one at that! Administration, faculty, staff, even food service workers are here FOR YOU. College is FOR YOU. When you see something you don’t like, do something about it! You can start small. One person can make a difference.
This edition doesn’t have a theme, but it does feature many inspiring stories to get you talking and thinking critically. From celebrating our packaging students for a job well done, to sharing legitimate concerns about using artificial intelligence for creative services, to covering logistical changes at RIT and places to relax and hang out, there is a little bit of everything.
And maybe that’s the point! You don’t have to care about everything all at once, all the time. But care about something. Pay attention to what is happening around you. Ask questions. Speak up when something doesn’t feel right. Look out for your neighbor, even when it doesn’t always benefit you.
I implore you not to be an observer in your own life. Make it better for yourself. Be the change you want to see in the world. Life moves fast, but that doesn’t mean you have to let it pass you by.
