At 7:53 p.m. on Sept. 2, it was reported that something appeared to be sparking near the Eastman Kodak Quad. At 7:55 p.m., a Public Safety officer responded that there was nothing sparking and that they would be looking around the area to determine what was going on. At 8:02 p.m. the officer found there was “active smoke” near the Eastman Kodak Quad near the SHED, possibly due to a lightning strike.
The Henrietta Fire Department was called, and after some investigation they determined that something electrical may have been hit, resulting in what one fireman described as an “exterior smoke condition” issuing from one of the vents. They did not confirm if it truly had been a lightning strike, but did mention lightning as a potential cause of the issue. At 8:39 p.m. the situation was declared to be resolved.
This occurred as a part of the same thunderstorm that caused flooding in multiple tunnels on both residential and academic sides of campus.
