SG Update 2/23

Endorsement was requested from Senate regarding a change of RIT’s C.13 Policy — the Service or Assistance Animal Policy. The majority of the changes were language alterations and updates to better include all varieties of animals. The new revision also replaced language dictating that all service and assistance animals be in close proximity to their owners with a more flexible mandate that requests they be under control. However, because Senate was not able to view the new version of the policy for themselves, they opted to table the discussion and the vote for endorsement until next week.
Senate then moved on to continue the discussion surrounding the C.11 Policy proposal on free speech and demonstrations. Informational posters are planned to be released, detailing the specific changes in the policy. Student Government President Farid Barquet, a fourth year Biotechnology and Molecular Bioscience and Biomedical Sciences double major, reminded Senate that the deadline for voting whether to endorse or oppose the proposal isn’t due until the end of the semester, so there was no need to rush to a decision.
COLA Senator Tayler Ruggero, a fourth year Criminal Justice and Public Policy double major, announced that plans for the COLA career fair were underway and going well. 28 companies in total are slated to attend, a number already higher than the 20 that were present last year.
Senate closed with a reminder that there will be an open forum regarding the C.11 Policy proposal on Wednesday, Feb. 28, from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the Fireside Lounge.
