Student Government (SG) convened to review PawPrints and new Ad Hoc Committees at their Sept. 25 Senate meeting.
PawPrints
Director of Student Relations, Jameson Baker, presented this week’s PawPrints.
“SIS needs to accurately display open seats and show reserved seats” was charged to the Academics & Co-ops Committee.
“Immediate Remediation of Mold, HVAC Systems, and Air Quality Hazards” was charged to Facilities.
Ad Hoc Committees
SG President, Yasmine Ibrahim, outlined her 5 proposed Ad Hoc Committees, which are modeled around the platform that she and Vice President Nkodia Ndongala ran on. Ad Hoc Committees dissolve once they accomplish their goals. SG voted by unanimous consent to establish all proposed Ad Hoc Committees.
The Clubs, Fairs, & Coalitions Committee will be chaired by Baker. Its main goals are to continue the on-campus job fair, organize a spring club fair, put up more signage for career fairs and develop internal co-op opportunities. Internal co-ops could connect students in need of a co-op with students who want to start businesses.
The Nutritional Reform Committee will be co-chaired by Director of Marketing, Miles Wong and Director of Operations, Peyton Jesse. This committee will work on establishing earlier and later hours at dining locations and a free or low-cost public market. Ibrahim mentioned the possibility of collaborating with Foodlink in creating the public market.
The Inclusion Committee will be co-chaired by Sebastian Canakis Diaz, Director of Finance and Hasaan Bodlah, Director of Partnership & Governance. The committee will work to increase inclusive food options, access to prayer spaces and access to menstrual products.
The Student Experience Committee will be chaired by Director of Elections, Joshua Anderson. The committee will focus on continuing the ROC the Block initiative, establishing a playground and outdoor seating.
The Health Services Committee will be chaired by Ibrahim and Director of Technology Services, Patricio Raigosa. This committee aims to increase access to counseling services and diagnoses for neurodiverse students on campus, as well as collaborating with Rochester Regional Health.
All SG members are expected to sit on an Ad Hoc Committee, and Ibrahim encourages them to choose the committee that they are most passionate about.
