Student Government (SG) gathered to review PawPrints at their Sept. 18 meeting.

Jameson Baker, Director of Student Relations, outlined the week’s PawPrints.

“RIT Should Cover Homework Platform Costs, Not Students” and “Stop RIT from using AI to replace notetakers” are now being worked on by the Academics & Co-ops Committee.

The Clubs, Policy & Wellbeing Committee is starting its work on “End RIT Partnerships with ICE-Aligned Corporations” by discussing the partnerships with RIT’s Director of Procurement.

Baker made a motion to close “Continue the weekly/daily vendors in the SAU” with a response explaining that RIT will not be reversing changes to its vendor program. The motion did not pass. Some SG members raised concerns that the response would not adequately address the petition author’s concerns.

The petition writer, third year Graphic Design student and “Tiger Guides” creator Liam Olson, who was at the meeting as a spectator, spoke up to say the proposed final response did not address the issue.

Baker mentioned that SAU vendors can be a fire hazard and that fewer vendors allow more quality control, a concern raised in a PawPrint last year. Some SG members, including Yasmine Ibraham, SG President, suggested highlighting these points in the final petition response.

The PawPrint remains open and will be discussed at next week’s meeting.
