Student Government (SG) reviewed the appointment process and appointed new members during their Sept. 11 meeting.
Appointment Process
SG Vice President, Nkodia Ndongala, outlined the SG appointment process. He began by listing the positions that would be filled later in the meeting: First Year Senator, NTID Senator, Facilities Committee Chair and Parking, Transportation & Outdoor Spaces Committee Chair.
Ndongala explained that each applicant gives a two-minute speech and is given up to five minutes to answer questions from the floor. After this, the applicant leaves the room. Once every applicant for a given position has spoken, SG will have a five-minute discussion. If needed, SG can ask an applicant two follow-up questions. After discussion, SG moves to a closed vote. The applicant with the most votes will be appointed.
Bylaw Amendments Vote
Director of Elections Joshua Anderson presented last week’s proposed bylaw amendments in place of SG President, Yasmine Ibrahim, who was not in attendance.
SG voted to accept all bylaw amendments by unanimous consent.
Senator and Chair Appointments
Bhumika Prem, first year Biomedical Sciences and Artificial Intelligence double major was appointed First Year Senator.
Prem and Cody Mo, first year Physician Assistant student, were the applicants for the First Year Senator position.
Third year Mechanical Engineering student Rokan Ahmadzai was appointed to the role of Facilities Committee Chair. He was the sole applicant.
James Zellner, second year Applied Mechanical Technology student, was appointed NTID Senator.
Along with Zellner, applicants were Pramesh Karmachrya, fourth year Business major and Alexis Jones, second year Criminal Justice student.
The NTID Senator is typically an elected role; however, nobody ran for the position in the 2026-2027 SG elections.
Jacob Brodeur, third year Humanities, Computing, and Design student, was appointed Parking, Transportation & Outdoor Spaces Committee Chair.
Third year Computational Math student Katherine Seeman was also considered for the role.
PawPrints
Director of Student Relations, Jameson Baker, outlined PawPrints.
“RIT Should Cover Homework Platform Costs, Not Students” and “Stop RIT from using AI to replace notetakers” were charged to the Academics & Co-Ops Committee.
“End RIT Partnerships with ICE-Aligned Corporations” was charged to Clubs, Policy, and Wellbeing.
The meeting concluded after two hours.
