Student Government (SG) President Rafael Gilboa surprised SG members and attendees with pizza before their April 10 meeting, during which SG appointed next year’s cabinet members and approved the Greek Leadership Committee (GLC) as an RSO.
GLC Approval
SG’s Greek President, Alex Shuron, and Greek VP, Sophia Pries, gave a shorter version of the year-one review they presented at last week’s meeting before SG voted to officially approve GLC as an RSO.
Director of Student Relations Appointment
SG appointed current Facilities, Parking, Transportation, and Sustainability (FPaTS) Committee Chair, Jameson Baker, to the role of Director of Student Relations.
During his short speech, Baker referenced some of his successes as FPaTS Committee Chair, which included reinstating the Clay and Walmart bus stops.
Director of Elections Appointment
Current Kate Gleason College of Engineering (KGCOE) Senator Joshua Anderson was appointed Director of Elections.
Notably, this will be the first time that the Director of Elections is appointed for the entire academic year instead of a single semester. With this extended timeline, Anderson mentioned that he intends to spend more time educating potential candidates on election violations.
Director of Operations Appointment
Peyton Jesse, a third year SOIS student studying Behavior, Society, and Justice Systems, and the current School of Individualized Study (SOIS) Senator, was appointed Director of Operations over another candidate, first year Physics PhD student, Kwame Bennett.
Jesse explained that she would like to increase ways for students to get involved in SG.
PawPrints
The petition “Add spaces for muslim students to pray” has been closed with a response explaining that they have “been able to identify a couple of designated spaces within two college buildings that students can use to pray between classes,” and that a space on dorm side will be ready by fall 2026.
The PawPrints “Bring back the Downtown Weekend Bus (TE3)” and “Bring back the downtown bus” were closed with a response announcing that there will be a “Unlock the Roc” shuttle event on April 17, which will be free for all students, unlike earlier versions of the event.
The meeting was adjourned after roughly an hour.
