On March 28, 2026, the Rochester Gay Men’s Chorus hosted its performance Harmonic Echoes: A Journey of Renewal Through Time at the Hochstein Performance Hall. The performance featured ASL interpretation and was held in a handicap-accessible building with a ramp.
The concert featured classic hits, such as “All Star,” “Take On Me,” “Wannabe” and “Man in the Mirror.”
Additionally, there were some small group performances— including a dance by the Rochettes, the chorus’s dance troupe. The Rochettes danced to selections by Chic, Whitney Houston and Dua Lipa while dressed in sparkly, colorful attire. Another small group ensemble, Teddy Bears, serenaded the audience with “Dust in the Wind.”
After a brief intermission, the group Versitones dazzled with “The Sound of Silence” and “The Longest Time.”
The chorus closed the show with the Time Warp, bringing smiles to the audience’s faces as members did the popular dance on stage and featured soloists sang along.
The Rochester Gay Men’s Chorus has a rich and storied history dating back to 1982, starting with just five members. Now, the group has 45 members. The chorus is celebrating 44 years together and continues to make music throughout the Rochester area.
On their website, their vision statement reads “We the members of the Rochester Gay Men’s Chorus unite proudly to seek a better world for ourselves, our community, and for our nation by sowing the seeds of harmony through the universal language of music.” The group accepts singers of all ages, as long as they can sing tenor, baritone or bass.
Throughout the night, chorus members walked through the audience selling 50/50 raffle tickets. The group is fundraising to travel to a festival hosted by GALA, the Gay and Lesbian Association of Choruses, held in Minneapolis in 2028. You can donate to their fundraiser here.
Their next performance is a Miscast Cabaret hosted at the Fairport Brewing Company on April 26 at 1 p.m.
