Women's Basketball

RIT vs. Skidmore College - 2/7

In what was a particularly eventful game for RIT's women's basketball team, the Tigers (10-11, 4-8 Liberty League) took down Skidmore College (13-7, 9-2 Liberty League) 58-56 this past Saturday, 2/7.

The highlight of the game came from first year guard/forward Amanda Olsen, who hit a bucket with just three seconds left in regulation play, bringing the Tigers up and clinching their second straight game. All in all, the Tigers showed some great performances on the court. RIT shot 33.3 percent from the floor on 20-of-60 shooting, making 15-of-21 shots from the foul line as well as 3-of-17 from behind the arc.

Some other key players for the Tigers this past Saturday were fourth year forward Merissa Maiorano, who scored 10 points for RIT on top of five rebounds, and first year guard/forward Jessica Giaz, who scored 19 points. Point leaders for Skidmore included Amber Holgate and Angela Botiba, who both put up 12 points, and Migle Vilunaite, who put up 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Women's Hockey

RIT vs. Mercyhurst - 2/7

Despite fighting as valiantly as they have all season, RIT's women's hockey team (10-17-3, 4-11-1 CHA) fell to College Hockey America leader Mercyhurst (20-7-3, 11-4-1 CHA) 3-0 this past Saturday at the Gene Polisseni Center on "Check Your Pucks" day.

Mercyhurst was one for four with the man advantage compared to RIT's zero for six, and Mercyhurst out-shot RIT 33-20. Despite the disappointing loss for the Tigers, the game was still for a great cause: The Tigers auctioned off special jerseys honoring fifth year student manager "Part Time Joe," the proceeds of which were donated to the Testicular Cancer Foundation of Western New York as well as the Lipson Cancer Center at Rochester General Hospital.

One of the best performances on the Tigers' part came from fourth year goaltender Ali Binnington, who stopped 30 out of 32 shots, some of which were truly incredible saves. The rest of the team also played terrifically, but some questionable calls and undeniably aggressive playing on Mercyhurst's part tipped the scales away from the Tigers' favor.

Men's Hockey

RIT vs. Niagara - 2/7

RIT's men's hockey team was also proudly a part of "Check Your Pucks" night, auctioning off jerseys to support cancer research. Unfortunately, despite all their best efforts, the Tigers weren't able to pull off a win at the Gene Polisenni Center this past Saturday, 2/7 in front of 3,025 fans.

The Tigers played aggressively throughout the first half of the game, holding a strong 2-1 lead on Mercyhurst going into the third period. Second year forward Garrett McMullen proceeded to score the Tigers' third goal of the evening, gaining them a commanding lead over Mercyhurst, but no one could seem to pull off a fourth goal against Mercyhurst's mounting defense.

In an instant, the Tigers lost their edge and allowed Mercyhurst to score three goals in only nine minutes. The game ultimately went into overtime, but RIT couldn't clinch a win, ending the game in a 4-4 tie. Despite the disappointing outcome, the Tigers played a great game. Fourth year forward Brad McGowan scored a goal and an assist for the Tigers while first year defense Brady Norrish also scored for RIT.

Men's Basketball

RIT vs. Rensselaer - 2/6

The men's basketball team (11-9, 6-4 Liberty League) held their ground in a tense game against Rensselaer (6-14, 3-8 Liberty League) this past Friday at RIT. Through a mix of highly offensive playing and some great tactical precision on the court, the Tigers managed to pull off a close 72-69 win against Rensselaer, holding their fourth place standing in the Liberty League Standings.

Throughout the game the Tigers managed to shoot 13-of-16 from the foul line as well as nine of 25 from behind the arc, shooting 41 percent from the floor on 25-of-61 shooting. Key players during the game included second year guard Joe Stortini who scored 15 points, first year guard AJ Horde who led the Tigers with 21 points, and third year forward JP Reagan who chalked up another 11 for RIT.

RIT vs. Skidmore College - 2/7

Despite an impressive win against Rensselaer the previous evening, the Tigers couldn't manage to pull off a win against Skidmore College (12-7, 9-2 Liberty League) this past Saturday, 2/7, losing their fourth place Liberty League Standings spot to Sarah Lawrence.

The Tigers managed to shoot 38.6 percent from the floor, a little bit worse than the previous night against Rensselaer, and went 21-of-57 shooting. Third year forward Kamron Davis and third year guard Miguel Lopez each scored 10 points for the Tigers while first year guard AJ Horde led the Tigers for the second straight night with 13 points on top of two assists.
