SG Mid-Year Reports
Camille Howard, Student Government (SG) director of operations and third year Film and Animation major, gave a presentation on how SG senators should format their mid-year reports. Recently-elected senators will not have to do a mid-year report since they haven’t yet completed any initiatives.
OUTspoken Announcement
Ryan Roy, vice president of OUTspoken and third year ASL and Interpreting Education major, announced that they will be hosting a trans solidarity rally on Oct. 29, 2018 to both denounce Trump’s recent proposal and show support to RIT’s transgender community.
“In light of recent events concerning President Trump’s administration and the Department of Health and Human Services’ plans to redefine the term “sex,” OUTspoken is standing up for our students and officially denouncing this change,” said Roy. “Redefining this term is extremely dangerous to the transgender community and increases the risk of violence for transgender people.”
The rally will be held by the Sentinel statue from 12:30–1 p.m.
Charges and Responses
A petition asking for the RIT rebranding to be reconsidered was charged to Larry Williams III, director of student relations and third year Marketing major. Williams aims to gather more information on the rebranding to send out to students. He also wants to clarify that the rebranding will not be changed.
A petition asking for increased funding in the Student Health Center was charged to Student Affairs. There are plans to research the Student Health Center to see where services are lacking. The budget will then be looked into to see where changes can be made.
A petition asking to “unlock Snapchat from campus WiFi” will soon be given a response from Tech Committee. The issue is said to have nothing to do with RIT wifi and is caused by something else.
A petition asking for Dunkin' Donuts on campus was charged to Housing and Dining Committee. Research has already been done into this petition when it was first brought up years ago. However, it will be looked into again to see if anything has changed since the last time this petition was denied.
A petition asking for the elimination of multi-factor authorization (MFA) and another petition asking that MFA involve apps other than Duo Mobile were combined into one and was charged to Tech Committee. It is highly probable that this petition will be denied as RIT is working to mandate MFA for an increasing number of applications and websites.
“Student Government’s already been communicating out that MFA is required and it’s not going to be an option for whether or not students are using it. It’s absolutely essential to protect any information and data for students,” said Bobby Moakley, SG president and fourth year Environmental Science major.
A petition asking to “add support for contactless student ID’s” was charged to Tech Committee. An investigation will be done into the costs of the contactless technology.
Announcements
Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences (GCCIS) will be hosting a costume contest from 11 a.m.–2 p.m. in the GCCIS atrium on Oct. 31, 2018 — Halloween day.
“In Loving Memory” will be held in the Allen Chapel at 5 p.m. on Nov. 1, 2018. The event will be bringing together various cultures and religions to discuss how people deal with death in different ways. Jessika Quijada, first year senator and first year Management major, will be tabling for her culture’s Dia de los Muertos at the event.
Global Union announced that they will be hosting “Halloween Blowout” in the SAU on Oct. 31, 2018. There will be several clubs and organizations at the event. Velocity will be performing at 6 p.m. in the Davis Room. ALANA Collegiate Association will be doing an activity in the Reading Room. College Activities Board will be doing a tabling event at 7 p.m. OUTspoken will be doing caramel apples. Global Union will be doing a costume contest and offering free food. Mental Graffiti will be doing a poetry slam in Ingle Auditorium. Reporter will be hosting Halloween trivia and conducting RIT-themed tarot card readings.
