If you are looking for a place to take a fancy date, if you are interested in entering the classical music scene or if you just like watching people show of their musical talent, this is the event for you. Musica Nova plays classical music of the contemporaries, focusing on the 20th and 21st century classics and often inviting the composers of the pieces themselves to their performances as well. Join them this Monday to hear this talented ensemble and to show off your class.

Tuesday 10/15

The Roc City Pro Jam, Lovin’ Cup, 300 Park Point Drive 
9 p.m. – 12 a.m.

Pro Jam, an R&B, Funk, Blues, Reggae, Hip Hop and Jam Band improv show is coming to Lovin’ Cup. Pro Jam invites bands and their musical members to the event and then splits up the artists, pairing them with people they've never played with before. They musically connect for the first time right in front of you! You get to witness musical friendship develop right in front of your eyes while listening to the awesome, thought up on-the-spot beats! Music, friendship and essentially magic all in one night. What could be better?

Wednesday 10/16

Cinderella, Todd Theater, 500 Joseph C. Wilson Blvd. 
8 – 10 p.m.

The International Theater Program at University of Rochester is putting on a performance of French director and playwright Joël Pommerat’s adaption of the fairytale classic Cinderella, translated by Emma Laurent. Basically, this is a modern version of the fairytale with cursing and depth. Come see this story’s update Wednesday night!

Thursday 10/17

Fashion Week of Rochester’s Thursday Show, The Factory, 33 Russell Street 
Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

The first fashion show of Rochester’s four day long Fashion Week is this Thursday and, unlike most fashion weeks exclusive to those on the celebrity B list, it is open to the public. Pick up your tickets, stop by The Factory and enter the world of fashion! Doors open at 6:30 for guests to enjoy the food trucks and art displays on sight, and the urban styled show starts at 8 p.m.

Cost: $25 for standing, $55 for floor seating

 

Friday 10/18

Thought@Work 2013 Industrial Design Conference
Registration 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Events begin at 1 p.m.

In its second year, this weekend long Industrial Design conference has already grown. People from all over the North East and Canada plan to attend as well as members of majors outside Industrial Design ranging from Packaging Science to New Media Design. With eight workshop blocks, food, events, parties and contests, this conference is sure to be one of RIT’s biggest design events of the year!

Price: $30 for the weekend

 

Saturday 10/19

Square Dance, Clark Gym 
8 – 11:45 p.m.

If you're feeling especially square this Saturday night, why not dance? Grab your partner and do-si-do on over to the Clark Gym for a foot stomping good time. Yee haw!

Sunday 10/20

Monster Scramble 5K/10K, Mount Hope Cemetery, 1133 Mount Hope Ave 
10 a.m.

Come to Mount Hope dressed in your best, most ghoulish costumes for this year’s Monster Scramble. Prizes will be given to the winners of the 5K and 10K in each age group in the male and female categories. But you don’t have to be fast to win; costume contests have winners too!

Cost: $25 preregistration, $30 day of the event
