At the November 8 Student Government (SG) meeting, Assistant Vice President of Student Auxiliary Services Howard Ward provided an update on developments in Student Auxiliary Services, changes to the bylaws were approved and more changes were proposed.

Student Auxiliary Services Updates

Ward updated SG on recent developments in RIT housing and dining. Student Auxiliary Services plans to change the dining options in Global Village by adding a new Nathan’s Soups & Salads location and reconfiguring The Market to be more of a convenience location, like the Corner Store. Ward said that the changes will address the need for late-night dining in the Global Village area.

Bylaw Changes

After Ward’s presentation, Tristan Wright, Director of Student Relations, presented proposed bylaws revisions. All of the changes were in Appendix D: Standing Rules of the Elections Committee. The changes included a rule that candidates can’t use MSO resources to campaign, a rule that candidates cannot campaign until after Spring Break and their candidacy is recognized by SG and a new section which describes a procedure for how election rules are enforced. In addition, the proposed rules require that SG’s Director of Service reviews candidates’ web presence.

The changes to the bylaws that were presented last week were voted on and approved at this meeting. Unless there are substantial revisions to the bylaws proposed, they can be voted on as early as next week’s SG meeting on Friday, November 15.
