The American Cancer Society defines “Relay for Life” as a movement: a community of like-minded survivors, caregivers, volunteers and participants who believe that the future can be free from cancer.
On the night of Saturday, Apr. 2, 2022, more than 800 participants filled RIT's Gordon Field House for "Relay for Life," a 12-hour fundraising event from 6 p.m. to 6 a.mwhere more than $90,000 was raised in donations.
This year's "Relay for Life" is on Saturday, Apr. 15, 2023, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m with an estimate of 1000 people in attendance.
Let's review what happened at "Relay for Life" last year in order to get excited for it!
A Different Fundraiser Event
The event was set up in a way that when you walked around the field you could see every particular table available for fundraising activities and purchases. Once you got to the event, the first step was to exchange U.S. dollars for Relay Bucks, the currency that was used for the event. After that, you were all set to enjoy and participate in any activity.
Original ideas and talents were used as a way to raise funds and made it exciting and fun at the same time. An example of a fun idea that gained a lot of popularity during the event was the RIT Tech Crew Team's $1 charge to have you laying or sitting on a couch while they pulled you around the field.

Remember Ceremony
Remember Ceremony honors every life touched by cancer. Peers were able to submit a luminary or slide in the remembrance and honor slideshow to a loved one lost, someone currently battling or anyone who’s overcome cancer.
Relay for Life participants shared an emotional moment when each "Luminaria" was lit in remembrance.
Together we took a moment of silence to remember the loved ones we were dedicating our Luminarias to. Together we took a moment of silence to remember the loved ones we were dedicating our Luminarias to.
By being present during this ceremony, the entire "Relay for Life" experience takes meaning. Even if in the beginning you didn’t know why you were there, what it was about or simply how cancer affected you personally in a direct or indirect way. the entire "Relay for Life" experience takes meaning. At the end of the day, most people know someone battling cancer: a parent, a sibling, a friend, an acquaintance or co-worker. Being a part of a movement that is dedicated to saving lives from this heartbreaking disease not only makes us proud, but it is an honor. but it is an honor.
If you missed this "Relay for Life" but still want to donate to this wonderful movement you can visit their website at any time and help us get bit closer to the future we all dream of: a future free from cancer.
