A new Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) wall has been installed to replace the longstanding tradition of hanging Greek organization flags in the Student Alumni Union (SAU), according to FSL student leaders. The wall stems from planned renovations to the SAU, which will affect the glass atrium area where both Greek chapter flags and international flags have historically been displayed.
Alex Shuron, president of the Greek Leadership Committee (GLC), explained that the idea emerged from meetings between Greek chapter presidents and the FSL office under former Assistant FSL Director Kira Ebersol.
According to Shuron, the university communicated that renovation in the SAU will prevent flags from being hung in their usual location. This affects not only fraternity and sorority flags, but also the international flags representing students’ home countries.

The FSL wall was proposed last year as a replacement for the removed flags.
“The plan is that flags of chapters will be handed back to chapters by the Center for Campus Life,” Shuron said, “and the wall will… display all active chapters on campus.”
The new wall is expected to serve as a permanent display of Greek life once construction begins and the existing flags come down.
This is a developing story, check back for updates.

It’s sad that RIT is continuing to diminish Greek life. When I was a Reporter staff member in the 90s there were a number of fraternity and sorority members who worked at the magazine and who were involved with student government.
