A significant change has been made to RIT’s shuttle system after previous issues, such as the cancellation of routes and the breakdown of active buses. On July 30, an email officially announced a new partnership between RIT and WeDriveU, ending a decade-long partnership with First Transit. Previously during the 2024-2025 academic year, several WeDriveU operated buses had been leased from local universities such as the University at Buffalo.
With this new partnership comes several changes. New schedules for the routes start with the commencement of the academic year on Aug. 25. These schedules can be accessed on the Parking and Transportation Services website. TripShot, a new app, will also be used instead of PassioGo. For the first year of the new partnership, white buses with digital route displays will be seen on campus, but afterwards RIT-branded buses will take their places.
The transition also comes with the loss of the route to Apex. In the email, RIT shared that this transition was done with “proactive efforts to preserve the relationship including a comprehensive offer to fully manage the shuttle service.” In a separate email sent out on July 28, Apex announced that they will be starting their own shuttle service to and from campus, which will run daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday and will pick up and drop off at the Gleason Circle alongside the other buses and shuttles.
